Joubert Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by decreased muscle tone, difficulties with coordination, abnormal eye movements, abnormal breathing patterns and cognitive impairment. These issues are due to abnormal brain development, resulting in decreased size of the cerebellar vermis and other brain abnormalities that appear as the “molar tooth sign” on a brain MRI. Although rare, several hundred individuals with Joubert Syndrome have been reported in the medical literature. Mutations in at least 10 genes cause Joubert Syndrome, accounting for 50% of patients. Subsets of individuals with Joubert Syndrome can also have polydactyly (extra fingers or toes), as well as retinal, kidney and liver disease requiring medical intervention.
The Joubert Syndrome and Related Disorders Foundation ( JSRDF) is an international network of families affected by Joubert Syndrome or related disorders. The JSRDF coordinates programs, including conferences, to connect families with each other and top medical professionals in the field; collaborates on research projects pertaining to Joubert Syndrome and related disorders; coordinates fundraising and awareness events; encourages government/lawmakers to support funding and research; and works with scientific and other professional advisors to assist families affected by Joubert Syndrome and related disorders.

Wheelchairs for Iraqi Kids
http://www.wheelchairsforiraqikids.com/index.html
Maclaren was inspired by the story of Brad Blauser’s mission to provide high quality pediatric wheelchairs to Iraqi children with disabilities. Maclaren supports Wheelchairs for Iraqi Kids through donation of the Maclaren Major Elite special needs stroller.
In August of 2005, Wheelchairs for Iraqi Kids was created to meet the needs for children with disabilities in Northern Iraq at the request of LTC David Brown. He and his soldiers had been in the city of Mosul and observed as children pulled themselves along the ground because their legs simply did not work. Since that time, over 600 high quality pediatric wheelchairs have been delivered to these children by soldiers serving in Iraq.
